In collaboration with Luarasi University, this initiative was undertaken to explore how circular economy principles can be effectively integrated into our beer production processes, in response to increasing environmental challenges and the need for more sustainable industrial practices. As a leading beer producer, we recognized the importance of reducing packaging waste, optimizing water and energy use, and improving overall resource efficiency. This collaboration provided an opportunity to evaluate our current practices, identify areas for improvement, and align our operations with circular economy models that support long-term sustainability and competitiveness.
The process was structured in several phases to ensure a comprehensive and practical approach. The initial phase focused on assessment and data analysis, where our production processes were examined using industry data, internal insights, and sustainability research. Students and academic mentors were engaged in understanding key challenges related to packaging, resource consumption, and waste generation, gaining direct exposure to real business operations.
This was followed by a phase of analysis and collaborative exchange, where workshops and group discussions enabled participants to identify opportunities for applying circular economy practices. From our perspective, this phase was particularly valuable in generating innovative ideas, such as increasing the recycling rate of glass bottles, improving packaging design to reduce material use, and exploring the reuse of by-products generated during the production process.
Based on these insights, we defined our strategic direction and action plan, focused on minimizing waste and maximizing resource efficiency. Our strategy includes strengthening bottle return and recycling systems, investing in more efficient packaging solutions, and identifying ways to repurpose production by-products within or beyond our operations. In parallel, we are working to optimize water and energy usage through improved monitoring and more efficient technologies, ensuring a more sustainable production cycle.
The implementation phase translates these strategies into concrete actions, including improvements in packaging logistics, collaboration with partners to enhance recycling systems, and internal initiatives aimed at reducing waste at every stage of production. Additionally, we are fostering a culture of sustainability within our organization, encouraging continuous improvement and employee engagement in circular practices.
Finally, the outcomes of this collaboration were consolidated into key recommendations that will guide our future initiatives. This experience reinforced the value of working closely with academic institutions to drive innovation and practical solutions. Through this structured and collaborative approach, we aim to position ourselves as a responsible and forward-thinking company, actively contributing to the development of a circular economy and to greater environmental sustainability in the beverage industry.
